What is the best credit card for beginners?

I just turned 18 and I want to start building up my credit. What is the best credit card for beginners? Also any tips would be helpful thanks!|||If you are a college student you can apply for a student card from any reputable bank. Chase, Bank of America, and Capital One are some good ones. Just don't apply for too many. I would say three max. Too many credit card applications will negatively impact your credit. Also, when you get a credit card be very careful with how you use it. Don't max it out, don't use it to buy things that you don't need or can't afford, and pay the bill on time every single month. After you've been doing that for at least six months most of them will increase your credit limit and give excellent reports to the credit bureaus about you. Keep that up and you won't have a problem later on when you're ready to buy big things like a car or a house.

One thing to be VERY cautious of is credit offers. Once you've been established in the credit bureaus as a creditworthy consumer you will begin receiving numerous offers in the mail from every bank all over the place to apply for more credit cards. Don't do it! Two or three credit cards is enough. Having too many lines of revolving credit open is not a good thing. The more of them you have the more you will be tempted to use them and that is how a lot of people end up under a mountain of credit card debt. |||When I turned 18 I got a Discover card.

I never paid interest and always paid my balance in full.

My credit was perfect when I bought my first house.

Never carry a balance or pay the minimum, it destroys credit.

If you have trouble with Discover, Bank of America, or Capital One, try store cards.

Target, Jcpenny, Sears, Kmart....

/|||A secured card is a good start. you put money for example $500 in a savings account and that is your credit limit and you make payments on your balance and it builds your credit score.

|||If you haven't needed a credit card up until people have been telling you that you need one, don't worry about it. You really don't 'need' one. The only reason that I got my credit card (aside to help with my credit score!) was for emergiencies-and that was at my family suggestion. I ended up applying for a card through my bank/federal credit union. They will be easier than any other place, especially if you have been with them for a while. Make sure you have NO annual fee. Aside from that, pick and choose.
