What is the purpose of a credit card in creating an Apple Account in iTunes?

Isn't there some alternative to the credit card? Because my parents are hesitant about handing me the credit card, and why shouldn't they be? Why do we have to pay to make an account?|||you can open an itunes account without a credit card or itunes gift card and you can have multiple itunes accounts in different countries. download the items that are offered for free: games, apps, songs, podcasts, movies, tv episodes. free offers vary weekly per country.

instructions: http://usitunes.blogspot.com/|||You don't need to pay to create an account, they ask for your credit card so you can make purchases in the iTunes store. And trust me, it's not a scam or anything; Apple is a reliable company.

Also, if you don't want to use the credit card, just load a gift card onto your account.|||The account is there so you can buy songs, so you do need to put in your credit card. Alternative...well, you could get one of those temporary cards, perhaps...but you still have to fill it with money...

My suggestion is you find another way to preview music (I can't think of any other reason to have an account with no intention of buying mp3s). Youtube is free :P|||Hello, Yes there is an alternative to using a credit card, which should make your parents happy, you able purchase gift cards, they are available in different dollar values eg $20-$50 etc, once you have purchased the card, just login to iTunes and select the redemption link, type in the amount, then you will be able to down load song tracks to that value.Good Luck. johnsvolt.|||they ask for a credit card to enable you to download things that aren't free in iStore. If you only wanted the freebies, you can just thick the "no credit card" box (if i'm not mistaken, that's what it said).
