I just bought an item with my credit card. Say the item costs 40 dollars; do I have to pay the whole 40 dollars at the end of the month or can I pay it off little by little? How little can you pay to still get good credit?|||When you get the bill in the mail. Pay it in full.
It is 100% myth that carrying balances is good for credit.
Nothing, but nothing could be further from the truth.
How to get great credit with this card.
Charge something small each month like food or gas.
Wait for the bill to come in the mail and pay it in full.
Never exceed more than 30% of your available limit
Ex: $500 limit, never use more than $150 at any time during the month.
54% of Americans use cards this way.
They never pay interest and hold the top scores on avearge
Do not start carrying balances. It can easily destroy credit.
Employers check, so do landlords and car insurance companies.
Work towards opening a savings account and having 6 months worth of emergency living expenses in it. No one should live without this fund.
You never know when you can lose a job, have major medical not covered by insurance, or have major car repairs|||It's always better to pay off in full, it gives you the best credit you can get. If I were you I would try not to use that credit card for things like clothing and whatnot, but a gym membership or something. This way it can be electronically transferred every month (say 40 dollars) and you can be sure you can pay it off each time. Basically, always pay in full, and don't overuse your credit card.
Also, there are a few credit unions that offer prepaid cards that build credit. It's a great way to build credit because you don't have to worry about taking too much out of the card; there's a limit.|||As long as the bill is paid on time and your balance is not more than 30% of your limit....there is no difference between paying $30 or $35. Good credit takes YEARS to obtain and charging $40 here and there is not going to get the job done.|||Your bill will have a minimum payment for it.
